Nautilus^WFiles 3.8 #ui

One of the Gnome applications that I kept using after abandoning ship and switching to XFCE was Nautilus - it did what I needed a file manager / files on the desktop manager to do.

Now version 3.8 of Nautilus has entered Debian unstable, and my machine. Suddenly there is no menu any more, so the only way to access the bookmarks is to have a huge sidebar opened.

Thank you, Gnome, for destroying yet another one of the ways I use my desktop.

Oh, also, my desktop turned black - the background picture is gone. And there is no option to set it when right clicking the desktop any more. Great.
Update: Apparently a lot of people have experienced this same problem, leading to patches and what have you. What year is this again? 1995, the year of the Linux desktop?

Third problem: I have bound "nautilus /my/favourite/folder" to F12, because it is an easy way to open a new Nautilus window of my favourite folder. Well, now if there is such a window already, it is just focussed - no new window is opened. Exactly not what I want. Perfect.
Update: Ok, there is a --new-window option I can use. I wonder how long it will be before it is removed.

This pisses me off.

Update: Oh, another thing I often used was to right-click on a folder and choose "Open in new window". That option has been removed. Left is "Open" and "Open in new tab". Thank you, that is very helpful.

Another update: After a nice tip in the comments (thanks, anonymous commenter), I have installed Nemo - and now I have my background, my "Open in New Window" in the context-menu, and I can access my bookmarks from the menu in each window again. God bless Cinnamon.
